Wanted to ask for any advice or you guys might have on composting horse manure. I setup a 6 bin system out of pallets about 8x8 for each bin. I pile all the manure from two horses into the first bin for two weeks and then transfer it to the next bin at the end of the two weeks. Right now the pile for two weeks gets to about 3-4 feet high.

Composting Horse Manure Introduction: Many horse owners do not have access to sufficient land to make good use of manure by spreading. Traditionally horse owners collect manure and soiled bedding and pile them on unused land on their property. Runoff from soggy manure piles can cause serious surface and ground water contamination problems.

So the other answers haven’t mentioned that horse manure is a hot compost and needs to compost and let heat up. Then when it comes back down, the worms will love it. In my experience, they love love cow and horse manure more than any food I’ve given them.

It is a rapidly developing area of research with increases in agriculture and the use of medicines in animals, so it will be a rabbit hole of things to read I imagine!
